SVSM is a club dedicated to the promotion of the hobby of scale modeling. Our meetings feature modeling subjects and programs covering all areas and genres of the hobby. Our meetings are open to visitors (see the meetings page for directions and maps) and frequently feature a monthly contest.

07-02-2009 The artillery update today comes solely from the Virginia War Museums and contains the photos of the four guns - US 4.7" Model 1906 Field Gun, Czechoslovakian 37mm Skoda Kanon P.U.V vz. 37.L/47.8 Anti-Tank Gun, German 37mm Maxim Flak 14 Anti-Aircraft Gun and US M1 8" Long Tom Gun.

06-25-2009 — Last of the photos from the Virginia Air & Space Center comprise the majority of today's update.  The walkarounds of the McDonnell Douglas F-18 HARV an experimental version of the F-18 with trust vectoring and Convair F-106B Delta Dart were added to the Aircraft album.  The MGM-31 Pershing II ballistics missile was added to the Missiles album.  In addition and also from Virginia we've added the de Haviland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk from Fighter Factory to the Aircraft album.

06-22-2009 — The armored update for this week added 4 new albums from the Patton Museum.  We've added photos of SdKfz 142/1 StuG III Ausf G, M113A2 ACAV APC, M31B1 engineering vehicle and WWI's Armored Mobile Shield.

06-18-2009 — Due to a relatively large backlog of the photos we are going to have updates twice a week for a while.  Today we have a naval themed update for you.  We've added the photos of the San Francisco Maritime Museum to the Museums & Airshows album, photos of the crane ship USNS Gem State (T-ACS 2) berthed at former NAS Alameda and photos of the "Hans Beimler" Project 1241A Missile Boat (NATO - Tarantul I) from Historic-Technical Information Center Peenemόnde in Germany to the Ships album and finally photos of the Soviet 76mm AK-176 Naval Gun Mount to the Artillery album.  Last two walkarounds were submitted by our new contributor from Germany Ilya Shaydurov.

06-15-2009 — Last of the 2008 Travis Air Expo photos comprise today's update.  We've added the photos of the McDonnell-Douglas F-15C Eagle, Beechcraft T-6A Texan II, McDonnell-Douglas KC-10A Extender and Douglas C-133A Cargomaster (which made it's last flight that day to join the Travis Air Museum).

We've also posted photos from January 2009 and February 2009 meetings of the SVSM.

06-08-2009 — It's been a while since we had an update dedicated simply to tanks so here it is - we've added the albums containing PzKpfw IVB Tiger II and T-72M1 from the Patton Museum as well as M50 Mk 2 Supersherman and T-34/76 Model 1942 (added 150 new photos) from the Littlefield collection.

06-01-2009 — Today's update comes from Virginia Air & Space Center.  We've added the photos of the McDonnell-Douglas F-4E Phantom II and Hawker XV-6A Kestrel to the Aircraft album and photos of the Hughes AIM-4 Falcon to the Aircraft Equipment, Engines, Armament and GSE album.

05-26-2009 — The theme for today's update is US Softskins.  We've added M135 and M35A2 cargo trucks and 1942 GMC Fire Truck from Travis Air Expo 2008, as well as 1942 Pontiac Torpedo Staff Car photographed at a display at the former NAS Alameda.

05-18-2009 — The aviation update today contains the photos of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXe from Fighter Factory in Virginia Beach, Boeing B-52H Stratofortress from Travis Air Expo 2008 and Dassault Etendard IV M and Sikorski H-19 (S-55/HO4S) Chickasaw both from USS Intrepid Museum.

05-11-2009 — Today's update is dedicated to artillery of all kinds.  We've added the photos of the US 6in Model 1903 Coast Defense Gun on Model 1903 disappearing carriage from San Francisco's Battery Chamberlin, German 15cm Howitzer Model 1893 and US 3" M5 Anti-Tank Gun from Virginia War Museum and US M8 75mm Pack Howitzer (Airborne) from Casemate Museum also in Virginia.  All have been added  to the Artillery album.

05-04-2009 — First thing we'd like to let you know is that the results of the Kickoff Classic 2009 have been posted to our site.  Congratulations to all of the winners.

We've also added three walkarounds from last year's Travis Air Expo 2008.  We've added the photos of the McDonnell-Douglas F-15C Eagle, Boeing C-17A Globemaster III and Boeing RC-135W Rivet Joint to the Aircraft album.

04-27-2009 — Getting back to our regular schedule we bring you four walkarounds taken by our contributor from Russia Yuri Pasholok.  We've added photos of a BMD-4 airborne armored vehicle to the Armor album and a BM-21 Grad on URAL 4320 Chassis MLRS to the Missiles album.   Both walkarounds were taken at MVSV 2008 arms expo in Moscow.  We've also added photos of the French Delahaye VLR D jeep to the Softskins album and Stalinets S-65 (ChTZ-65), a soviet copy of the Caterpillar S-65 to the Automotive album.  Both were taken in the Moscow's Oldtimer Gallery exhibition.

To the Members' Models section we've added a new model - Russian WWI Submarine Bars set in the Baltic in 1916 that was scratchbuilt in 1/700 by Vladimir Yakubov.

04-20-2009 We've posted the photos from our club's last weekend's SVSM Kickoff Classic 2009 model show. The show was great, we've set a record with over 550 models and 132 modelers. Especially impressive was Jim Lund's Seaplane Collection where he displayed 122 models of seaplanes from the first days of flight to the modern days.

It's been a while since the last naval themed update so we've added the photos of the USS Intrepid CVA-11 and USS Growler SSG-557 from the Intrepid Museum in New York City to the Ships album and added the US 5"/51 Mk9 on a Mk18/0 Wet Mount from Virginia War Museum and theUS 20mm Oerlicon Mark 68 Mod 0 Anti-Aircraft Gun from the SS Red Oak Victory to the Artillery album.

04-13-2009 — We've added a new section to the gallery inside the miscellaneous folder - called Space Exploration it will be dedicated to the Real space walkarounds.  To kick it off we've added photos of Apollo 19 Lunar Lander and replica of a Sputnik from New York's Cradle of Aviation Museum, photos of Apollo 12 Landing Module from Virginia Aerospace Museum and Astronaut Maneuvering Unit (AMU) from Hiller Aviation Museum.

04-06-2009 — A new aviation update gives the following walkarounds - Polikarpov I-153 Chaika and Bόcker Bό 133C Jungmeister from Fighter Factory in Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas Morse S4C Scout from Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City, NY and Douglas C-53D Skytrooper from Aerospace Museum of California in McClellan, CA.

03-30-2009 — We have reached a milestone on the site - we've passed 100000 photos uploaded to the gallery.

Today's armor update is dedicated to the US armor and contains four albums from the Patton Museum and Fort Knox.  We've added the photos of the early M3 Stuart light tank, M3 Halftrack, M7 Priest SPG and an experimental XM800 scout vehicle.

We've also added the photos from the 2008 TriCity Classic to the Model Shows gallery.

03-23-2009 — The aviation update today contains a little bit for everyone from four different places.  From an unnamed airfield in Northern California our club member Mick Burton brings us the photos of the  firefighting Sikorski S-64 Skycrane, from Aerospace Museum of California we've added the photos of the Grumman F-14D Tomcat, from National Aerospace Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center we've added the album containing photos of the Kugisho MXY7 Ohka Model 22 kamikaze bomb and finally from the Colorado's Wings Over the Rockies museum we've added Douglas B-18A Bolo brought to us by another of our contributors Randy Ray.

To the Members' Models section we've added a new model - Russian Cruiser-Minelayer, 1916 GUK project which was scratchbuilt in 1/700 scale by Vladimir Yakubov.

03-19-2009 — We recently lost one of long time members of the club and one of the people who stood at the roots of the aftermarket movement for models - Tom Harrison from Tom's Modelworks.  We would like to extend our condolences to his wife and his family.

03-16-2009 — Final part of the archive clean up brings us a British Sexton SPG from London's Woolwich Arsenal, a US Ford GPA amphibian from Boston's Museum of Science, a German 88mm PaK43 Anti-Tank Gun from Patton Museum and a US 120mm M1 Anti-Aircraft Gun from Aberdeen Proving Grounds.

03-09-2009 — Today we've posted the photos taken by our club member Mick Burton in Oregon.  We've added photos of the two museums from that area - Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon and Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon.  From the second museum we've added the photos of Nakajima Ki 43 Hayabusa (Oscar) and Kaman HTK-1 (TH-43A) Huskie to the  Aircraft album.

03-02-2009 — Continuing with clean up, today we have a day dedicated to artillery.  We've posted last two albums from Victory Park in Moscow - Soviet 122mm Model 1910/30 Field Howitzer and Soviet 45mm Model 1934 anti-tank gun.  We've also added two albums submitted by our contributor Alex Samokhin - Soviet 85mm Model 1939 AA gun from Spaso-Borodinski Monastery and French C.de 155mm L.M. le 1877 Se Field Gun from 20th Century History Museum in Moscow.  And finally we've added to photos of the same French C.de 155mm L.M. le 1877 Se Field Gun taken by your webmaster.

Last of the vintage model show albums from Rodney Williams was added to the Model Shows gallery - Travis Model Contest 1988.

02-23-2009 — More cleanup today gives us the last album from the the Vertical Challenge 2008 airshow - Boeing CH-47D Chinook.  We've also added the photos taken by one of our club members Rodney Williams in the 1980s - Focke-Wulf FW-190D-9 from the US Air Force Museum and an interesting album containing photos from Walter Soplata's Airplane Junk Yard taken in 1987.

We've also added another vintage model show album from Rodney to the Model Shows gallery - Sacramento Regional Contest 1988.

02-16-2009 — It is time to do some clean up of our archives, so for the next few updates that is what we are going to be doing.  Today we've posted last 4 albums from last year's Dragon Con.  We've added - a Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton Truck, a Dodge WC57 Command Car and a M29 Weasel to the Softskins album.  We've also added a US M1 57mm Anti-Tank Gun to the Artillery album.

We've also added photos of another vintage contest to the Model Shows gallery - Stockton Model Contest 1988, by Rodney Williams was added to Rodney Williams Wayback Machine.

02-09-2009 — Another mix of aircraft related subject have been added to the gallery today.  We've added a US General Dynamics FB-111A Aardvark bomber from Aerospace Museum of California, US Sikorsky SH-60B SeaHawk ASW helicopter from Vertical Challenge 2008 air show, an experimental Ball-Bartoe JW-1 Jetwing blown wing aircraft from Wings over the Rockies museum and finally a French WWI Le Rhone 9C rotary engine also from Aerospace Museum of California.

In addition we added a new section the website called Local Museums (you can see the button on the main menu to the left) where we provide the information on the local military museums.  Eventually we plan to turn it into a full blown review/information page on each museum.

02-02-2009 — It's been a while since we had an update dedicated to just tanks so today we've added four tanks out our gallery - a US M2A1 Medium tank from the Pattom Museum, a US M1A2SEP Abrams MBT photographed at the retirement ceremony at Fort Knox, a British Churchill Crocodile flametrower tank and finally a German Leopard 1A1A1 MBT, both from Littlefield collection.
